Starting in the Gibbston Valley vineyard, our tasting tours give you the opportunity to learn more about the history of the region and the winemaking journey. The tours also include tasting three current release wines in the unique ambiance of our wine cave. Or for an experience like no other, try a Winemaker’s Select Tasting.
The underground cave has been blasted out of the solid schist of the Central Otago mountains, and creates an ideal natural environment to mature award-winning wines – stored at a constant 12-14°C (53.6-57.2°F) – and a perfect place to appreciate them.

Cave Tour
$15 pp, Daily 10-4 on the hour. Bookings required for groups of eight or more.
Informative, fascinating and legendary, the cave tour is one of the must do activities in Central Otago. Starting in the historic original Gibbston Valley Vineyard, the tour treks gently down to the prominent wooden cave doors. Behind them lies mystery! Blasted 80 meters into solid Central Otago schist, the cave’s walls are flanked by some 400 Pinot Noir barrels, creating a unique ambience, perfect for tasting current releases and talking about the region, people and its wines.
Cave Tour Select
$25 pp, 11am and 2pm daily, bookings required.
On this tour you will gain access to the alcove in the cave where the seriously interesting tastings are held. Tucked in here in an environment of fine wine and relaxed discussion, you will try the substantially cool new Single Vineyard wines – and whatever else is topical at the time. Hosted by a senior member of staff, these twice daily tours are for those who want something more substantial to fuel their interest.
Prestige Tour
The prestige tour is for those who want an individual, all-encompassing Gibbston Valley experience. In relaxing surrounds, your tasting includes the current releases and past classics. The tour also includes a guided tour through the vineyard, winery and cave, returning for a two course lunch matched with our award winning wines at our vineyard restaurant.
$175 per person, includes two course lunch. Minimum 2 people
Winemakers Experience
Hosted by one of our winemakers, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the winemaking process. Each tour is unique, entertaining and extensive, including barrel tastings and current vintages. The ultimate end to the tour is a relaxing two course lunch at the vineyard restaurant, matched with our award winning wine.
